New Employee Spotlight: Jordan Governale

Updated: Feb 8, 2022

Jordan joined the Historic Ithaca team in October of 2021 as Work Preserve Warehousing & Traditional Skills Trainer. Prior to moving to Ithaca he worked as the assistant property manager for a large retreat center in western Connecticut for many years. In that role, he maintained around 20 buildings, including some dating to the 1930s, and led a diverse group of youth and young adults in on-site projects. His time there taught him a number of useful skills that he is excited to continue using here at Significant Elements. Jordan says “I have really enjoyed getting to know the building we’re in and finding some creative solutions to maintaining some of the challenges that arise.”

Jordan quickly became an asset to our team. You can understand this by the way he describes his job, “My workday is always different, some days I spend all day driving around the area picking up interesting items from donors, others I might be in the store helping customers, in the workshop, or anywhere around the building working on a maintenance project.” Currently, he’s preparing furniture repair projects to work on with Work Preserve participants in the coming weeks.

He says that knowing he is working to build a sustainable future really means a lot to him and that he feels as if he is playing his part in cultivating a more sustainable community. He mentions “the whole staff and I are genuinely passionate about the work we do here. I think it’s a wonderful way to serve our community and teach those around us to repair and reuse.”

In his spare time Jordan enjoys biking, reading science fiction novels, and plays lots of folk instruments. Most recently he has started practicing the Mountain Dulcimer.

Please join us in welcoming Jordan to the team!
