Barclay Jones was faculty member at Cornell University and a leader in the preservation field, in and outside of Tompkins County. As an academic and sought-after consultant, he was regarded as an authority on planning and preservation issues, in particular, earthquake damage prevention, and is credited for significant growth in Cornell’s City and Regional Planning and Historic Preservation Planning programs. He served as Vice-president of the board at Historic Ithaca in 1976 and was president from 1979 to 1981. During these years, Historic Ithaca became truly organized, for the first time adopting sophisticated financial accounting under his leadership. In each of his roles, his actions exemplified a core commitment to education.
