History Happens Here: Guidelines for Teaching Local History

From 1986 to 1988, Historic Ithaca received grants under NYSCA’s Arts-in-Education Initiative to develop a local history curriculum, in collaboration with Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga BOCES, for architecture and preservation education in rural schools. The program, called History Happens Here, was piloted in Groton and Trumansburg schools at the fourth grade level. History Happens Here was one of Historic Ithaca’s many educational programs designed to get young people interested in their local architectural heritage.
