MARKETING & DEVELOPMENT
COORDINATOR

The ideal candidate will have relevant job experience in communications, event planning, marketing, fundraising, community engagement, or related fields.  Education or experience in historic preservation, history, or a related field is preferred, but not necessary. 

Job Description
Part-time, 25 hours a week
$20.00 per hour to include vacation, personal time off and holidays.

This position works with the Executive Director, Preservation Services Coordinator,  Significant Elements and Work Preserve Manager, Work Preserve staff and participants, interns, and volunteers to manage and implement the communications, engagement and broad-based fundraising activities for Historic Ithaca, Significant Elements’ retail store and the Work Preserve program.  This includes promoting the organization, its mission, events, accomplishments, and demonstrating the impact of support. 

Historic Ithaca (HI) is a well established nonprofit organization, whose mission is to promote and preserve the built environment in Ithaca and throughout Tompkins County, as the “voice of preservation.”   Historic Ithaca’s related business, Significant Elements (SE) is an architectural salvage retail store, open to the public, that supports the mission of the organization. An educational component of HI and SE is its Work Preserve job training program (WP).

 

The position is a direct report to Historic Ithaca’s Executive Director, is part-time, $20.00/hr, 25 hours per week and works with the entire team at HI and SE.  Preferred in-person but can be remote, when needed. 

 

Marketing and Design 

  • Implement the Marketing and Significant Elements Business Plans in conjunction with the Executive Director, SE Manager, Preservation Services Coordinator and Development Committee; 

  • Create and execute marketing campaigns and strategies that advance Historic Ithaca’s brand, and in support of the Significant Element business plan;  

  • Maintain and add content to HI and SE’s websites on the Wix platform; 

  • Manage and promote HI’s community engagement programs and events through its websites, social media and print and digital publications, to reach established audiences and to connect with new and diverse constituencies;

  • Produce monthly Constant Contact email newsletter working with staff, partners and advertisers/sponsors;

  • Engage with Tompkins County’s entities such as Tompkins Center for History and Culture partners, Tompkins County Historical Commission, and others for programming in preservation, tourism, arts and culture sustainability and workforce development;

  • Design advertisements, print media including post cards, posters, exhibit posters, fundraising materials and social media campaigns using existing branding and logos; 

 

Social Media 

  • In conjunction with Executive Director and SE Manager, develop a social media strategy and plan;  

  • Create social media content and post to Instagram, Facebook and other channels for HI, SE and WP. Manage and evaluate metrics and adjust strategies and tactics as needed; 

 

Database Management  

  • Utilize HI’s fundraising software program, SUMAC, for constituent and donor tracking, mailings of all types, event participation, customer surveys and statistics; 

  • Track and compile program and event metrics for reports to board of directors and grantors;


Development 

  • Assist the Executive Director and development committee in execution of three direct mail solicitations per year and email solicitations as planned and scheduled;

  • Provide support for development of pledge cards and materials for personal solicitation by staff and volunteers;

  • Draft, design and produce donor impact report once a year;

 

Events 

  • Assist to coordinate and manage events, and/or work with lead staff on events.

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

The ideal candidate will have relevant job experience in communications, event planning, marketing, fundraising, community engagement, or related fields.  Education or experience in historic preservation, history, or a related field is preferred, but not necessary.  Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but not required. 

 

Individuals must demonstrate exceptional written, visual and social media communication skills and have a proven track record of community engagement, event planning and successful communication and marketing strategies.  

 

The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, and show the ability to work effectively with project teams and with community and regional partners, effectively represent HI, in-person and virtually, with cultural and arts partner organizations, working professionally and sensitively with diverse audiences. 

 

The position requires the individual to be self-directed on projects and in collaboration with others, and demonstrate a high level of organization and reliably meet deadlines.

 

The individual should be prepared to use software to inspire engagement with events, campaigns, and programs via print and social media.  The computer skills required include Adobe Creative Suite; Microsoft Office; social media; data collection; website maintenance or design; CRM or fundraising database experience highly preferred, familiarity with mobile apps an asset. 

 

Experience working in a non-profit organization, New York state government agency or local government desirable.

 

Hours are based on Historic Ithaca and Significant Elements hours of operation: (HI) Monday through Friday 9 AM to 5 PM; (SE) Monday through Friday 9 AM to 4 PM andSaturday 10 AM to 5 PM. There will be evening and weekend hours necessary.
