Investigating Historic Paint Colors
Evan Kopelson is an architectural conservator with Vertial Access. Evan has a BA in Archaeology and Classical Civilization from Cornell University and a Master of Science in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Vertical Access, Evan performed laboratory analysis and testing of architectural materials, and monitored several restoration projects with companies including Building Conservation Associates and Architectural Resources Group in San Francisco. Evan has published several papers on varied conservation topics.

Robert Kauffman owned a furniture refinishing and restoration busniess and has more than thirty years of experience in maintenance, repair, and renovation of homes and commercial properties. Robert is Historic Ithaca’s furniture expert and teaches building maintenance skills to Historic Ithaca’s Work Preserve Job Training participants.

with Sarah Highland
Sarah K. Highland builds and designs with timber, clay, straw, brick, and slate. Her work is an exploration of how to create buildings that feel alive and how to build community while building structures. As principal of Highland Artisan, she works with owner-builders and community groups as consultant and build leader, cuts timber frames, designs, and teaches. Mary Beth Ihnken is a professional muralist and decorative painter from Brooktondale, NY. She is recognized for her mural techniques, faux finishes, and trompe l’oiel. She brings a sense of scale and proportion to each project, as well as a keen eye for color.
