Get schooled in adaptive reuse! Take an “Unseen Ithaca” tour of the old Ithaca High School built 1912 to 1915 and repurposed into the DeWitt Mall in the early 1970s. The 100+-year-old structure in the DeWitt Park Historic District is one of downtown Ithaca’s vital retail, residential, and culinary centers. See how old classrooms have been converted into apartments and catch glimpses of the enduring details of the old gymnasium, auditorium, and cafeteria in their new guises.

In Shik Lee, the DeWitt Mall’s property manager, will lead us through the storied structure, while Tompkins County Heritage Ambassador Martha Preston shares the history of the building and Historic Ithaca’s Preservation Services Coordinator Christine O’Malley discusses the enduring value of adaptive reuse in historic preservation. Tour lasts approximately one hour.

The tour is $5 per person; registration is required.

Teachers tour FREE during Ithaca Loves Teachers Week. Enter “TEACHER” as the Promo Code at registration and click the “Apply” button.
