Explore the nooks & crannies of Cornell’s student union, the Collegiate Gothic-style Willard Straight Hall, on a guided architectural history tour led by Cornell’s Cat Holmes. The tour culminates with an insider’s view of the Straight’s historic University Theatre, where Cornell Cinema Director Mary Fessenden shares the theatre’s history and architecture. We’ll enjoy two silent film shorts in the storied space: an episode from Beatrice Fairfax, a silent serial produced by Ithaca’s own Wharton, Inc. Studio, and an episode from The Escapades of Emily, a silent film serial made by Bill Gilman ‘93 when he was a film student at Cornell in 1991, shot in part in the theatre.

Light snacks and drinks provided.

Meet in the Willard Straight Hall Main Lobby on the 4th/Main Floor, just outside of the Browsing Library.

The Inside Straight is sponsored by Ithaca Heritage, Historic Ithaca, Wharton Studio Museum, and Cornell Cinema.
