Significant Elements turns 20!
Historic Ithaca launched the Significant Elements architectural salvage program in 1991 as a seasonal, all-volunteer program to keep reusable house parts and building materials out of the landfill. Today, Significant Elements is a year-round, staffed program with over 7,000 customers annually. It has grown into a community resource for materials, product and contractor recommendations, hands-on training, and professional expertise.
The 20th Anniversary Fair will celebrate reuse and the traditional building trades with two days of events at our headquarters, 212 Center Street in Ithaca’s historic Southside neighborhood:
Friday, July 22
- walking tour of the Southside and Titus Flats neighborhoods 5:15-6:30 (Meets at corner of Center and South Plain Streets)
- storewide sale 9:00-5:00
- MEGA Free Friday 9:00-5:00 (no earlybirds please!) For more free items, head to the “Really Really Free Market” from 5pm to 8pm at the Southside Community Center’s Congo Square Market, sponsored by the Southside Community Center and Share Tompkins.
Saturday, July 23
- traditional building and craft demonstrations 1:00-3:30
- “Ask the Old House Experts” Panel 10:30-12:00
- walking tours of the Southside and Titus Flats neighborhoods 10:30-11:45 and 1:30-2:45 (Meets at corner of Center and South Plain Streets)
- raffle drawing 4:00 (Buy Raffle Tickets)
- children’s activities 10:00-4:00
- storewide sale 9:00-5:00
- “Re-Art Challenge” 10:00-4:00
- bake sale and refreshments 10:00-4:00
- old-timey games 10:00-4:00
- unveiling of our new Plain Street Mural 12:30-12:45
