Get Involved!

Volunteers are the key to the success of Historic Ithaca’s educational programs, advocacy efforts, and special events.  By joining Historic Ithaca as a volunteer, you can build new skills, work with a wonderful and diverse group of people, and help HI accomplish its important mission in our community. We’ll be happy to tailor your volunteer position to fit your skills and interests.

Our current biggest need is for retail associates to help run Significant Elements on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

We are always looking for people with repair and restoration skills to share – contact us if you’re interested in teaching lighting repair, hardware repair, plaster repair, decorative finishes, or any other skill to our job training program participants OR as an instructor for a workshop offered to the general public.

We offer several ongoing volunteer positions to fit diverse interests and abilities, including:

  • Retail Associate
  • Office Manager
  • Newsletter and Marketing Associate
  • Library Associate
  • Advocacy Associate
  • Fundraising Associate
  • Barn Survey Associate
  • Neighborhood Tours Leader
  • Conservation Lab Associate
  • eBay Store Manager
  • Special Events Associate
  • …and more!

We also welcome volunteer service on our Finance, Preservation Advocacy, Development, and Communications Committees.

  • DOWNLOAD a pdf or msword Volunteer Application. Email completed applications to or mail to 212 Center Street, Ithaca, NY 14850.

As our way of saying thanks, volunteers receive 25% off purchases at Significant Elements and discounted admission to HI events after 20 hours of service.
