50 for 50: Greek Revival Festival

In September 1976, Historic Ithaca held its first conference, a Greek Revival Festival. The festival – an event featuring lectures, a special exhibition, and Greek-themed food and festivities – was part of Tompkins County’s celebration of the U.S. bicentennial anniversary and was the culmination of two years of planning for Historic Ithaca. With over 200 participants, the festival was an encouraging show of support for Historic Ithaca, then in its tenth year. The Greek Revival Festival became the first of several biennial conferences celebrating prominent architectural styles in Tompkins County.
