The Ithaca Landmarks Preservation Commission (ILPC) just adopted Design Guidelines for Historic Districts and Individual Landmarks, which are intended to provide general guidance to property owners, architects, developers, and trades people in planning appropriate repairs, renovations, and alterations to Ithaca’s historic built environment. These guidelines also serve as the basis for the ILPC’s decisions regarding regulated changes to locally designated historic properties.

The guidelines can also be a great resource for owners of older buildings that aren’t officially designated as historic. Building owners considering exterior changes can consult the guidelines for ideas on how best to maintain their building’s historic character.
